PRP treatment at Metro Bangkok Clinic
What is PRP ?
Plasma is the liquid part of your blood that’s mostly made of water and protein. It lets red and white blood cells and platelets move through your bloodstream. Platelets are a type of blood cell that makes your blood clot. They also play a role in healing. and they have a lot of Growth Factors
Growth Factors in PRP
-
Platelet derived growth factor (PDGF)
-
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)
-
Epidermal growth factor (EGF)
-
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF)
-
Insulin -like growth factor 1 (IGF)
-
Interleukin 8
-
Connective tissue growth factor
-
Keratinocyte growth factor
We can use platelet rich plasma (PRP) on injuries or damage to tendons, ligaments, muscles, joints, and skin.
Why PRP ? Is it Safe ?
The PRP is a procedure developed for people who want healthy, youthful, and rejuvenated skin, but done naturally and without surgery. This procedure is able to do this by your own body’s healing and regenerative properties.
These properties make PRP an ideal natural serum for rejuvenating facial skin quality with increased collagen production, blood supply, and new skin and fatty tissue generation, creating that youthful appearance that comes with healthier skin.
The key ingredient of the PRP is platelet rich plasma, which is derived from the patient’s own blood. PRP is obtained by drawing your blood, just like normal blood test.
Then separated by spinning the patient’s blood through a centrifuge.
PRP appears as a yellow/pinkish serum after it is separated from the darker components made mostly of red blood cells. (If the machine not good enough it can not separate the RBC and Platelet correctly so have to be careful)
Does this have anything to do with stem cells?
The growth factors activate your own adult stem cells in and under the skin. This stem cell activity results in:
-
Skin quality improvement
-
Improved blood flow and blood supply to the skin
-
Stimulation of new collagen production
Which problem can be treat with Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP) ?
The goal of PRP injections are used to treat torn tendons, tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis related pain, and joint injuries. They’re becoming more common for cosmetic procedures, too. For example dermatologists and hair replacement experts use PRP injections to treat a type of hair loss called androgenic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness, which affects men and women. And some dermatologists provide PRP treatments for the face. (You may have heard these called a “vampire facial.”)
Is there any side effect ?
PRP doesn’t usually cause major side effects. But because it involves drawing blood, you just make sure you eat before the procedure. That will help you avoid feeling lightheaded when you get PRP injections.
Who should not do PRP treatment ?
Some health conditions (such as cancer, anemia, abnormal platelet function or low platelet count, autoimmune disorders, heart disease or uncontrolled diabetes, infection, heavy cigarette smoke)
Because sometimes it can effect the quality of platelets and should consider another treatment.
PRP procedure at Metro Bangkok Clinic
At Metro Bangkok Clinic use the machine from Japan same quality as the hospital. To make sure that machine can separate platelet from RBC correctly and make our patients get better results.
The procedure takes less than 20-30 minutes. (Not include numbing process)
First we draws blood from your body and uses a machine to separate the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood. Then the doctor numbs the area of your body being treated with PRP injections. When you’re numb already, the doctor uses a needle to inject the PRP into the area of your body being treated.
Once platelets are in the area that’s being treated, they break down they will release their growth factors which trigger the natural processes of cell proliferation, cells repair and tissue renewal. (trigger your body’s healing process)
The procedure itself takes about 20-30 minutes, and most people can resume their normal activities immediately afterward.
How to take care after PRP ?
Although you will be able to return to work or other activities immediately after your PRP.
But we recommended patient should avoid washing the treatment area for 24-48 hours. After that, it is all right to use hair and skin care products and continue with topical medications.
The treatment area may be sore for two or three days, and the patient may notice some bruising and pain. Acetaminophen can help ease discomfort.
For the hair area. Hair dye or coloring treatments can resume one week after PRP treatment.
How long does the PRP last? When should come back to follow up ?
The renewal effects on the skin usually lasts several months. Some people may need to have the procedure repeated once or twice a year depending on what their goals are and what they are trying to achieve.
Although you can see result only one treatment, we recommendation to do series of 1-2 treatments per year.
PRP can be repeated in 2-4 weeks from last treatment depend on the problems.
